who stole your heart and the key?

In the dark, you taste something sweet and tart on your tongue, almost like apple but not quite: pomegranate juice, out of nowhere. A hint of something metallic accompanies it.

You fall down.

He just shakes his head, bemused. "It's definitely fine here."

"I have to try."

There's another distant rumble and roar from somewhere...

...Yeah, don't do anything too stupid trying.

[gonna. step back a little and examine the crack.]

If he's supposed to be the one cooking, why did he leave?

It's just barely wide enough for a person to fit through, but it widens up ahead. A dull red glow comes from deep within, as does the scent of brimstone. Right above the crack, a ragged red banner flutters, bearing an indecipherable symbol in gold upon it. That marking is oddly alien in this place.

But you can't even draw the sword.

Her smile is wistful now. "I don't know...I think he had something really important to do. I hope he's okay."

"I'll manage it sooner or later."

...I'm going in. Kid, at least think about what I said?

Hm.

[Walks over and looks at the sword in the stone.]

It's a plain steel blade with an undecorated hilt. Despite the obvious symbolism, there's nothing Excalibur-like about it.

"Uh-huh."

Liar.

[he says it lightly, though, and ducks into the crack.]

HEADING BACK THROUGH THE CRACK IF HE CAN ]

I'll... be back, I guess.

Rocks seem to have fallen in the crack while you were talking to the woman, even though you didn't hear them. You can't go back. There's no going back. You can only move forward.

You squeeze into the crack. Before you, the ground slopes down...

[ Rin shakes her head slightly. ]

There's no such thing as heroes.

[She wouldn't know Excalibur if it were stuck in a stone in front of her anyway. But she examines it for the best possible point of impact to break it, and then waves at the kid to stand back.]

"It's definitely fine" is the kind of phrase someone says right before everything goes to shit.

[loooooking around first, then steeling himself and walking to the woman.]

[ ... :(

just... stands there for a long moment, staring, before looking for other ways to go... ]

There doesn't seem to be a way to go back, but you can head past the woman and move deeper down.

There's not much to see here aside from the flowers. Upon closer examination, each of them is clearly unique. They're faintly warm, too.

It's hard to walk through the grass without stepping on the flowers, and for some reason stepping on them is vaguely upsetting now that you've looked more closely.

As for the woman, she's young and friendly-looking, with short hair and cheerful eyes. She's attempting to cook in a pot over the campfire, humming to herself as she does so. Oddly, she seems to be using a pair of swords to stir the ingredients. She lifts a hand to wave as you approach.

"Hey, I know you think that's what happens because of movies, but trust me, it's just fine here."

"Huh?" He's startled enough to let go and step back for just a moment.

A distant rumbling roar of deep, pained distress echoes throughout the land. It seems to come from both above and below at the same time.
