In the dark, you taste something sweet and tart on your tongue, almost like apple but not quite: pomegranate juice, out of nowhere. A hint of something metallic accompanies it.

You fall down.

Hello.

[steelmyself]

She's young and friendly-looking, with short hair and cheerful eyes. She's attempting to cook in a pot over the campfire, humming to herself as she does so. Oddly, she seems to be using a pair of swords to stir the ingredients.

She lifts a hand to wave as you approach. "Hi!"

Do you want any help?

[steelmyself]

She gives a small shake of her head. "It's all right. I'll have dinner ready soon enough, and then the whole family can eat together."

[mentifact]

Oh... That's good. Then, I won't interrupt you all.

[steelmyself]

"Don't worry about it. Maybe you can join us for a bit, some other time. You've got places to go now, right? But I always think he could use more friends."

[mentifact]

Who?

[steelmyself]

She smiles. "You know. That kid."

[mentifact]

I'm not sure who you mean...

[steelmyself]

"That's okay." She looks wistful. "He'll...he'll get here eventually."

[mentifact]

Would you like some company for a while? We can wait for him together, if you want.

[steelmyself]

"It's fine if you stick around for a little while, but don't you have somewhere to be going?"

[mentifact]

Not really, I don't think. I was curious about what's further down, but that can wait, right?

[steelmyself]

"I don't think he'll be here for a while."

[mentifact]

Then you'll be waiting here for a while, right?

[steelmyself]

"Yeah, but I've got cooking to do!"

[mentifact]

If you're done cooking by the time he gets here, then it wouldn't be imposing on me much.

[steelmyself]

She shakes her head. "You should keep going. I think I have some more cooking to do."

Although, to be honest, the stuff in the pot already looks kind of burned. And hideously mismatched. Who thought it was a good idea to cook that?

It won't be lonely while you're waiting?

[steelmyself]

"No." She smiles. "It's fine. -̵̡-͢-̀́͜-̢̛͝-̨̡̨͞-̡ ͏̴̸͟҉_̢͜͜͟͡ will show up soon enough even if _̢͜͜͟͡_̷̡͢_̷̡̢̛̀_́́͘҉_̢͢_̷̨͢ doesn't."

Oh- then, that's good. Should I wait until they arrive instead?

[steelmyself]

She shakes her head. "You've got somewhere to go. But if you want, I can give you a light for it. It's going to get dark up ahead."

[mentifact]

Ah- thank you, I'd appreciate it.

[steelmyself]

She holds out one of the swords. Its blade is glowing slightly. "Here you go."
