In the dark, you taste something sweet and tart on your tongue, almost like apple but not quite: pomegranate juice, out of nowhere. A hint of something metallic accompanies it.

You fall down.

He answers immediately and without hesitation, with a bright and sweet smile. "Everyone. I'm going to save everyone."

You're kidding, right?

"No! There's nothing wrong with it. That's what I think. It's fine if I want to save everyone--I'm going to do it."

[ He stops laughing and shakes his head. ]

Let me tell you something— if you try to save everyone, you're gonna get yourself in trouble. It's better to just focus on the people you care about the most.

He shakes his head, and there's a stubborn glint in his eyes. "I'm going to save everyone."

A distant rumbling roar of deep, pained distress echoes throughout the land. It seems to come from both above and below at the same time.

[ He glances around. ]

What the hell was that?!

[ Saber raises an eyebrow. ]

You're kidding me, right? You're way too into that damned sword if you didn't hear that noise.

He just shakes his head, bemused. "It's definitely fine here."

"It's definitely fine" is the kind of phrase someone says right before everything goes to shit.

[ Saber rolls his eyes expressively. ]

Man, fuck the movies. That's personal goddamned experience.

[ Saber waves a hand in the kid's direction in disgust. ]

If you're going to damn yourself to a hell of your own making, I'm not going to stop you. But don't say no one warned you.

He makes an annoyed noise and just goes back to pulling on the sword.

[ Saber ditches the guy and starts examining the crack in the ground. Are there any rocks on the ground nearby? ]

Sure, there are some pebbles and stuff. Nothing too huge.

The crack is just barely wide enough for a person to fit through, but it widens up ahead. A dull red glow comes from deep within, as does the scent of brimstone. Right above the crack, a ragged red banner flutters, bearing an indecipherable symbol in gold upon it. That marking is oddly alien in this place.

[ He glances at the banner curiously, then drops a pebble down the crack. ]

Down, down, down she goes...

The crack isn't outright vertical, just downward-sloping; the pebble rolls down it for a while, then comes to a halt. It doesn't seem to have reached any fathomless pit or anything, at least.

[ He walks over to the banner and traces the pattern of the foreign symbol. ]

There's something vital and powerful about it, but it also seems very out of place here, for some reason.
