In the dark, you taste something sweet and tart on your tongue, almost like apple but not quite: pomegranate juice, out of nowhere. A hint of something metallic accompanies it.

You fall down.

"Someone else was supposed to be cooking," she explains, "but he left. So I'm holding down the fort."

Other than stab people, I mean. Not dissing the stabbing! But magic swords. Endless possibilities.

"I have to," he insists. "I promised. Besides, isn't it a nice dream? It's a really nice dream."

"It's the entrance to somewhere nice. I mean, I think so."

"My father, of course. And..." He looks lost for a moment, shakes his head, and resumes pulling at the sword.

Saving people, huh! Admirable goal, pretty good. Got any people in mind?

"Ugh..." He just keeps pulling.

"No, it's gotta be this sword."

He answers immediately and without hesitation, with a bright and sweet smile. "Everyone. I'm going to save everyone."

"No, I'm busy with the sword."

He shrugs a little. "It might be."

[ He can't help but let out a startled laugh. ]

You're kidding, right?

"No! There's nothing wrong with it. That's what I think. It's fine if I want to save everyone--I'm going to do it."

[ He stops laughing and shakes his head. ]

Let me tell you something— if you try to save everyone, you're gonna get yourself in trouble. It's better to just focus on the people you care about the most.
